This calculator converts a ribbon or decorative-mesh purchase into a cost per foot, a waste-adjusted cost per wreath, and the number of full designs one roll can support. It also estimates how many rolls a planned batch requires.
Formula in plain language
Convert roll yards to feet, then divide the roll price by total feet for cost per foot. Multiply the measured feet used per wreath by (1 + waste percentage), then multiply by cost per foot. Whole-wreath yield always rounds down; rolls needed for a collection always round up.
Illustrative numbers
Worked example: a 10-yard roll used at 18 feet per wreath
A $12.99, 10-yard roll contains 30 feet and costs about $0.43 per foot. Using 18 feet per wreath with 5% waste raises planned use to 18.9 feet and the ribbon cost to about $8.18 per design. One roll supports one complete wreath. Four wreaths require 75.6 feet, so the purchase plan rounds up to three rolls.

When to update the estimate
Measure a finished design when the bow, tail length, wreath size, ribbon width, or construction method changes. Replace the default waste allowance with what you observe across several real builds.

How do I measure ribbon used in one wreath?
Measure the total length cut for bows, tails, loops, and other pieces. Use the same construction method you normally use, then add a waste allowance that reflects unusable remnants and mistakes.
Why does the calculator round designs per roll down?
A partial design is not a sellable design. The yield shows only whole wreaths the roll can support at the entered usage and waste allowance.
Is the waste percentage an industry standard?
No. The default is only an example. Replace it with your observed cutting waste, mistakes, and unusable remnants.
Can I use this for decorative mesh?
Yes. The length and cost math is the same, but construction methods and practical waste differ. Select mesh and enter the usage you actually measure.
